About Yoga:

Yoga is an ancient practise that originated in India 5,000 years ago which focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to promote physical and mental well-being. Meditation and relaxation are an important part of yoga practice, creating an holisitic self-care regime to improve health, reduce stress and promote a balanced lifestyle. There are many styles of yoga asanas, varying from the gentle and relaxing Scaravelli and Hatha yoga to the more dynamic and cardio Astanga style. Yoga isn’t a religion, it is a spiritual way of life in which a commitment to self-awareness, holistic self-care and a consideration to others brings a sense of peace and fulfilment to the practitioner.

Am I too old for yoga?

Absolutely not. Yoga is beneficial and enjoyable at any time of life, from childhood through to advanced years, and is a safe and effective way to increase strength, flexibility and balance at any age. Yoga has proven beneficial for treating high blood pressure, heart disease, back ache and joint pain, and has a dramatic effect on reducing stress levels, anxiety and depression.

Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?

Not at all. Yoga will improve your flexibility and posture, increase your range of movement and make daily activities easier to perform. Yoga is the ideal complement to your fitness training programme, reducing injuries and enhancing your performance potential by improving the quality of your muscle fibres as they stretch, release and re-align.

Qualifications

  • Sivananda Teachers Diploma, Sivananda Vedanta Centre, London.
  • Teachers Diploma, Sunra International School of Yoga.
  • Advanced Teachers Diploma, Sunra International School of Yoga.
  • BTS Body Balance Instructors Diploma, Fitpro, London.
  • OCR Level 2 in Personal Training, St. Mary’s College, Twickenham.
  • OCR Level 2 specialisation in Injury Rehabilitation, St. Mary’s College, Twickenham.

I began practising yoga in my early 20’s to resolve my own stress related issues associated with running my own high end fashion design business in central London. Having discovered the benefits of yoga for myself, it became a huge part of my life and self-discovery resulting in dedicated practise, meditation and an immersion into the yogic lifestyle. I travelled extensively, trying the many different styles of yoga in the ashrams of Thailand, The Balearics and Europe before returning to the UK to become qualified as a teacher.

I lived in London during my marriage, working as yoga teacher in yoga centres and health clubs and specialising in pregnancy yoga, children’s yoga, yoga for injuries, disabilities and special educational needs. I then returned to Sussex as a single mum of a toddler to expand my yoga potential and spend more quality time with my son.

Over the following years I extended my qualifications to become a personal trainer, injury rehabilitation therapist and postural alignment therapist but I have always used yoga asanas alongside these disciplines to achieve the most beneficial results for my varied clients’ needs.

It is through my varied practise of different yoga disciplines including Hatha, Sivananda, Iyenga, Astanga, Yin and Kundalini that I’ve developed my own unique style of teaching, blending all these styles to create a balance that varies for each of my client’s specific needs. I harness the energy within the mind and body and work with the very specific energy centres or Chakras to raise energy levels, develop positive thinking and release tension and stress. My more traditional Western healthcare qualifications bring a practical edge to my teaching that everyone can relate to.
